SAHRR Prompt #4

 Hi Everyone,
We are waiting for a major winter storm here today, scheduled to start tonight and be short but fierce. and I'm finally ready to post my interpretation of the prompt from Wendy
Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilting Life. What a week my friends!. I felt that I might have found a good addition for my project, jumping into a new border I've never attempted before. I have the book The Border Workbook by Janet Kime , and the ribbon border spoke to me. I thought it would work for the prompt, and would complement my piece. Well it was a struggle for me to follow the directions, not Janet's instructions, but my inability to see things dimensionally. It's a long standing LD for me. Let me show you my final success.

I really like this border, but it doesn't suit my project at all. I'll put it aside for some time in the future. When I let the piece speak to me, rather than me telling it what would happen next, my answer came clearly. I measured the 4 1/2" corner blocks in the existing border, and halved them on all four sides, inserting a small strip before sewing the other half back on the corners. Now it seems to fit. I think I'm beginning to see how he finish needs to go with this project. It's exciting , and I'm waiting to find out tomorrow what Brenda from Songbird Designs has in store for us. Here's a pic of where I am at this point. My handsome helper is acting as my design wall. So the outside dimensions of the piece remain the same, but the split blocks do add a new dimension

That's it for today. I do hope that you are enjoying this RR, and that you have a safe and peaceful week

Lynn

  1. Isn't it interesting how we have an idea in mind for our borders, and then our quilt tells us something else entirely? The border you set aside is so cool - I'm not sure I could wrap my brain around that, but yours looks good. I like the solution you came up with for this border - it fits the quilt so well!

  2. It is a winter where the storms keep coming. I am sorry you didn't like the border you worked on but the current one looks terrific. Maybe it can find a home on another piece. I love the way your quilt is coming together.
