Foodie Blog Hop
Hello everyone. Are you ready to journey with Carla (our host),and the other bloggers as we enter the Foodie Blog Hop. Today is the first day, and here in Canada we are celebrating Victoria Day, Queen Victoria's birthday. That seems like a fine time to share ideas and items made with the foodie theme
As part of our Cumberland Quilt Guilds activities ,we were asked to make two placemats, one suitable for a man, and one for a woman. These are to be given to two care homes in our county. Most of the residents are of senior age, sort of like me. I thought about some fabric I bought on a whim a few years ago, and decided it would be just what would fill the bill for this request. The fabric is based on the episode of Lucy and Ethel at the chocolate factory
I'm not sure how many of you would remember the I Love Lucy series that was on television,I hope they bring a smile and a bit of nostalgia to those who receive them. I can remember my mom and grandmas enjoying all the episodes.
Now I hope you are able to visit all the bloggers this week, enjoy their work and that your own creative spark will shine a little brighter.
Here's the list again : Monday, May 23rd
Tuesday, May 24th
Wednesday, May 25th

I loved that show and you made a lovely quilt too
ReplyDeleteThanks Lianne, it brings back memories
DeleteCute placemats. We watched many I Love Lucy shows, but I guess they were all reruns!
ReplyDeleteThanks Vicki. You were younger than the originals, but first runs or reruns, there was some good laughter medicine in some of those shows. When my husband saw me making those mats, he wistfully asked me to keep an eye out for "Leave it to Beaver" fabric, as that was his fav show as a kiddo.
DeleteLove the placemats and the I Love Lucy theme!
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth. They were fun.
Deletea wonderful idea. I loved "I Love Lucy". She was such a tickle
ReplyDeleteShe sure was Lori. Some of the facial expressions were enough for me to be laughing out loud.
DeleteYour placemats will receive much love at the care homes. Whoever gets them is certainly lucky. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm hoping that they will give some light and pleasure.
DeleteI loved watching I Love Lucy. While I wasn't born when the show first aired, I must have watched the reruns of the show dozens of times in the past. The chocolate factory was one of my favorite episodes too. Someone will be the lucky recipient of that placemat.
ReplyDeleteDaryl, I guess Lucy and that merry band were a classic. We too have seen many of the episodes numerous times. Thanks for visiting today.
DeleteI have so many memories of Lucy's shows. My favorite was her in the chocolate factory with Ethel. I'm sure those care home residents will love these pretty placemats. Thanks for sharing, Lynn!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure hoping they will awaken fun and laughter in someone's heart. Thanks for your visit Carol.
DeleteAdorable placemats. I remember I Love Lucy, and I loved the chocolate factory episode, plus I remember one where they were stomping grapes to make wine. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBoth of those episodes were memorable Karrin. I loved watching the grape stomping part in the wine episode, and the memory of Lucy and Ethel madly grabbing chocolates off the assembly line in the factory, was just too much! I'm so happy you could stop in for a visit today, Thanks
ReplyDeleteI remember those episodes, but I was surprised by the dates. I must have been watching reruns when I was young...or maybe it was the next version of the show....who knows. Great job on those placemats and I am sure the recipients will love them.
ReplyDeleteThe I Love Lucy placemats are perfect for seniors! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like them Gail. I do too. Thanks for stopping in.
DeleteThe chocolate factory is the only episode I really remember, but it was soooooo funny. It must have been a rerun at one time. Love that you made these placemats with that great fabric. So fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carla. I'm glad this brought a remember smile for you. There were many funny episodes
DeleteI still laugh and smile whenever I see a "I Love Lucy Show" even if I've seen it a dozen times. Loved that episode at the chocolate factory with Lucy (& Ethel) stuffing those chocolates in their mouths and their bras - anywhere possible. I'm laughing just thinking about it. The placemats would be wonderful for remembering and I think the backing you used was absolutely perfect.
ReplyDeleteYour memories made my smile appear right away. Lucy had that effect. Thanks for joining me for a few minutes. I appreciate it.
DeleteI am a big "I Love Lucy" fan and remember that scene in the chocolate factory very well. Nice work with the placemats.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping in, and for your kind comments.

ReplyDeleteI'm happy that you like them and that you are enjoying the memory. Thanks for visiting.
DeleteThat's my favorite episode from "I Love Lucy"! I've never been much of a TV watcher, but I did enjoy that show. Your quilted place mats will be treasured. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon. I'm hoping that they will create some smiles and memories for the recipients.
DeleteNeat placemats! You/Someone will enjoy using them! We watched I Love Lucy faithfully when I was growing up.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit Carol. I have had some fun making them, and now am hoping to give pleasure to others.
DeleteOh, yes, I remember Lucy! Great fabric choices.
ReplyDeleteI guess the fabric choice was serendipity. Sometimes you buy something on a whim, and then if all works out well, you find a perfect spot to use it.Other times it might sit on the shelf forever. I'm glad this one worked out.
DeleteI also remember I Love Lucy. That chocolate factory was one of the funniest episodes. The fabric is awesome. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteDanice, thanks for taking the time to visit, and to say some kind words. It feels good.
DeleteI loved watching I Love Lucy when I was younger. Great fabrics and a fun project.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a show that my family watched. I have also watched some of my favourite episodes in reruns. It was a fun project, and I'm happy to say, one that will get lots of use.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a terrific choice of fabrics both front and back. That episode was just hysterical. I'm sure your intended recipients will eat their dinners with a smile.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comment. This was a fun project.
ReplyDeletethe best episode EVER where her and Ethel stuff their faces with chocolate!!
ReplyDeleteAnd the look on their faces as they were madly trying to catch up was priceless. Thanks for visiting with this nostalgic moment.
DeleteFun memories, and those of us that are a wee bit younger got to experience it later in life as reruns. Great fabric, and fun backing too!
ReplyDeleteI think it did end up being multigenerational, and that is great. We all like to be entertained and Lucy was certainly a master in that area. I'm so glad you stopped in for a visit.
DeleteWhat perfect fabric to inspire some nostalgia in both all of us and the recipients of your sweet 😉 gift. That was the est episode of Lucy. I’m gigling just thinking of it Lynn. 😄
ReplyDeleteYes, Carol, it does make me smile still after all of this time. There was an innocence in that humour, and I think we all felt it. I'm so glad you stopped in to visit and share a kind comment
