Foodie Blog Hop

Hello everyone. Are you ready to journey with Carla (our host),and the other bloggers as we enter the Foodie Blog Hop. Today is the first day, and here in Canada we are celebrating Victoria Day, Queen Victoria's birthday.  That seems like a fine time to share ideas and items made with the foodie theme

As part of our Cumberland Quilt Guilds activities ,we were asked to make two placemats, one suitable for a man, and one for a woman. These are to be given to two care homes in our county. Most of the residents are of senior age, sort of like me. I thought about some fabric I bought on a whim a few years ago, and decided it would be just what would fill the bill for this request. The fabric is based on the episode of Lucy and Ethel at the chocolate factory

I'm not sure how many of you would remember the I Love Lucy series that was on television,
Well,I Love Lucy premiered on October 15, 1951 and aired on Monday nights at 9pm EST until its 179th episode aired on May 6, 1957. There are 181 episodes total—including the pilot episode and a Christmas special.

Well I was just 5 years old when it premiered, but like many of my era, we all knew and were entertained by the antics on the show.
I wanted to carry the theme through to the backing, so I dug out this piece of chocolates fabric, and used it for backs and bindings. I think these will inspire some old memories for the residents. I had enough to make 4 placemats, so that is exactly what I did.

I hope they bring a smile and a bit of nostalgia to those who receive them. I can remember my mom and grandmas enjoying all the episodes.

Now I hope you are able to visit all the bloggers this week, enjoy their work and that your own creative spark will shine a little brighter.

    1. Thanks Vicki. You were younger than the originals, but first runs or reruns, there was some good laughter medicine in some of those shows. When my husband saw me making those mats, he wistfully asked me to keep an eye out for "Leave it to Beaver" fabric, as that was his fav show as a kiddo.

  9. Both of those episodes were memorable Karrin. I loved watching the grape stomping part in the wine episode, and the memory of Lucy and Ethel madly grabbing chocolates off the assembly line in the factory, was just too much! I'm so happy you could stop in for a visit today, Thanks

  13. I still laugh and smile whenever I see a "I Love Lucy Show" even if I've seen it a dozen times. Loved that episode at the chocolate factory with Lucy (& Ethel) stuffing those chocolates in their mouths and their bras - anywhere possible. I'm laughing just thinking about it. The placemats would be wonderful for remembering and I think the backing you used was absolutely perfect.

    1. I guess the fabric choice was serendipity. Sometimes you buy something on a whim, and then if all works out well, you find a perfect spot to use it.Other times it might sit on the shelf forever. I'm glad this one worked out.
