UFO blog hop

 Thursday July 28

Sometimes I get on a roll and think I am superwoman, BUT then life gives ma a lesson in humility and I come back to earth with a rude crash. I love the idea of a OFO blog to spur us to get more finishes and my heart is excited. I have many projects to bring to the table. Thank you Joan for hosting this hop. I laid out several projects at various stages of completion and my big one I started first. That one i finished. Then came the big boot. I somehow caught an intestinal virus, and ended up in Emerge for a week, scraped, bruised, concussed, and a couple of broken bones from loss of consciousness, resulting from extreme dehydration. I'm home now since a couple of days, and will heal slowly, and with more humility, which is likely a good thing. My two black eyes are not pretty though.

I'm going to share my one finish. Every year I host a Sew In for 30- 35 quilters, and we have a great time sharing with each other . I sew gifts for everyone through the year, and that gives me great joy. This year I wanted to reinforce using our scraps, and reusing and recycling in our lives, so I bought a patter from Karen Neary, (I've mentioned Karen before), and I proceeded to make 41 tote bags using selvedges I had saved or had been gifted to me by others who don't use them. Our crew is bigger this year, as we missed out during the worst of Covid. I was behind and running out of selvedges when a friend kindly donated another bag of strips to me. These will be a surprise to the participants, so please don't share until after the 3rd of Aug. Then came the virus and the hospital stay, so any other finishes are on hold until after I get an all clear from the concussion. I loved making these as well, just so you know. If you want to make a bag similar to this please do, and share yours with your friends. It's a small thing we can do.

Joan you are a jewel, and thank you so much for hosting. I will add two pictures, and after the sewday I'll try to post some pics of the crowd with their new gifts. I'm not seeing very clearly so please excuse the many typos.

The second picture is a large plastic bag with 19 more bags folded, and there is also a box with 20 under the cupboard.

Lend a hand where you can.

  2. Oh my goodness Lynn, I am so sorry to hear about your health. You are a rock star though for finishing all those fabulous bags! I have saved selvages myself here, but done nothing with them. I'm going to check out the pattern. Take care of yourself. Wishing you a speedy recovery and a healthy rest of the year!

  6. You poor thing, Lynn! It's bad enough to get a bug, but to have it cause a fall is a terrible double whammy. Hopefully you'll mend quickly! xo

  8. I love your selvage totes! I have saved selvages since I started quilting in 2008, but I've only used them to recover my daughter's dining room chairs, so I have a tote full! I just may need to make some totes.

  11. Oh my goodness, Lynn! I am so sorry to hear that you had to go through all of that. I hope you are able to lay low for a bit and allow yourself time to really heal. Concussions are nothing to mess around with. What a sweet gesture, making bags for your friends who come to the sew-in. Good job on making 39 of them!! Sending healing thoughts your way. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  12. Holy cow! I am so sorry about your recent illness and falls. I can only hope you were well taken care of and that your days of recuperation are putting back on the saddle. How unfortunate and how scary. Sending hugs! But I really love your bag/bags made from selvages. The design is amazing with the diagonal lines; it really accentuates all the colors and shapes on the selvages. I am sure your ladies will just love receiving them. I know I sure would. Take care! And have fun with your mini retreat next week.
